What is your approach and philosophy to healing and your work?

Stress is said to be the number one cause of any imbalance leading to illness or dis-ease. It impacts on our bodies, feelings and thoughts in a myriad ways, eventually, if not released, compromising our bodies' natural integrity, with follow-on effects on our physical, emotional, mental and energetic health, balance and wellbeing.

By its very nature relaxing and detoxing, reflexology's therapeutic benefits counteract our stress response and assist the body to drop out of stress and tension-induced survival mode into 'maintenance' mode where it is able to initiate its own healing response.

I firmly believe that, with the right support tools, healing is possible and achievable for everyone. These strengths include a mutually beneficial dynamic client / practitioner interaction in which the client feels respected, accepted, safe, supported and cared for.

What does a regular treatment involve?

Over 7000 nerve endings in the feet make them an ideal 'body map' for treatment. In a standard relaxation session, I use a variety of techniques to address the whole body and all its organs, glands, parts and systems. Where the focus is on achieving therapeutic benefit, I find craniosacral therapy in reflexology and oriental therapies-based chi reflexology very beneficial in assisting the body back into a natural sense of balance and wellbeing as both approaches work with the body ‘from the inside out’.

Bowen therapy is a gentle remedial soft-tissue musculoskeletal modality that aims at switching off the body’s stress responses, thereby returning the body from stress-induced survival mode to maintenance mode where it is best able to access and mobilise its own innate healing abilities. Bowen therapy encourages the body into a natural, rather than normal, sense of balance and wellbeing. The modality’s gentle rolling movements over muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves can provide fast relief of discomfort and pain through rehydrating the body’s tissues in addition to offering a powerful relaxing and enjoyable option for both maintenance and prevention. Detoxification and revitalisation are natural by-products of a Bowen session as the treatment increases the body’s immunity by boosting its efficiency in dealing with toxins and waste products.

Your Bowen session can be conducted either through light clothing or on skin. Sequences of moves may be followed by short breaks to allow the body to initiate a healing and rebalancing response. Bowen therapy follows the principle of ‘less is best’ so that even initial sessions take no longer than 30 – 45 minutes depending on individual circumstances.

How long will it take before I see a result?

Reflexology clients often feel noticeably looser and lighter as early as after their first session. Others discover a benefit a little later in the treatment sequence. A series of 4 to 6 weekly treatments is usually ideal to initiate relaxation and detoxification and thus the body's own healing response.

Bowen therapy tends not to involve extended treatment as it is usually very quick and effective in achieving lasting results in addition to producing noticeable improvement in even chronic and long-term imbalances. Depending on the condition being addressed, most issues improve with 1 or 2 treatments and/or resolve with 3 or 4, respectively. There are very few contraindications to Bowen therapy, allowing it to benefit all ages.

Professional reflexology treatments holistically support, and seamlessly integrate with, all approaches to health care.
Reflexology is beneficial in general for

  • all-over balance and wellbeing,
  • detoxification,
  • general relaxation,
  • prevention and maintenance,
  • stress and tension relief.

Bowen therapy is highly useful in the treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological and neuromuscular imbalances. Bowen therapy’s interaction with all our organs, glands and body parts through the connective-tissue system harnesses the power of the trigger points used in remedial massage and the underlying meridians of acupuncture. This makes Bowen therapy a powerful multidimensional approach to health care with potential benefits for our emotional and mental wellbeing. The enhanced sense of all-over balance and wellbeing that often arises from improved mobility, circulation and immunity due to a more natural posture after even minimal Bowen treatment can have a beneficial follow-on effect on an individual’s enjoyment and quality of life.
